The Bethel Baptist Church family exists for:

Our Church History

Bethel Baptist Church was begun in 1957 by our first pastor, Keith Henderson, and a small group of believers. It began with home Bible studies in the Whitefish area. A Sunday School was started on Sunday afternoons for the children and youth. A bus ministry helped to transport them. Gradually, a church family emerged with regular Sunday morning services. In the early 1960s, a church building was purchased and transported to our present site on 97 St. Pothier Road, Whitefish, ON.

Since Pastor Henderson, there have been four pastors serving at Bethel: Alan Peguenat, Dave Spencer, Ralph Willan and Rob Weatherby. The church works together with other evangelical churches in the area but is not affiliated with any particular denomination. It is Baptist and evangelical in its theological beliefs.

OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

We confess to be a body of believers in the finished work of Jesus Christ. We confess to be born again and believe that the scriptural means of baptism is by immersion after salvation in obedience to the commandment of our Lord.

As the disciples, we are told to go forth and teach the Gospel. We also believe according to Matthew 28:19-20 that we are called to preach, teach and baptize. The following is a list of the main doctrines which we, as members of this body known as BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH, agree upon:

THE BIBLE

We believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God and that its sixty-six books are the complete message that God has given to us. We believe the Bible is without error and that it will never be destroyed (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21 and Mark 13:31).

THE TRINITY

We believe in the doctrine of the Trinity that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are three persons yet equal in divine perfection each carrying on a distinct work in which all are in complete agreement (1 John 5:3, Luke 3:21-22).

THE VIRGIN BIRTH

We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born of a virgin as no other child has been or ever will be born (Matthew 1:18-25).

THE DEITY OF CHRIST

We believe that Christ lived as a man yet as God was absolutely pure and without sin (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26).

THE SECOND COMING

We believe that Christ came to this earth once to pay the price of sin and that He is coming again to receive believers unto Himself. We believe His second coming, preceded with the shout of the archangel, will be visible to all and that Christ will be in bodily form (Acts 1:11, 1 Thess. 4:16 and Rev. 1:7).

THE CREATION

We believe in the literal interpretation of Genesis chapters 1 and 2.

THE FALL OF MAN

We believe that God created man in His own image and in a sinless state. We believe that man fell from this condition by voluntary transgression and that ever since every person has been born with a sinful nature. In this condition he is under condemnation and will never be able to enter God’s presence (Genesis 1:27-28, 2:16-17, 3:6, Romans 3:10, 23 and John 3:3).

REGENERATION

We believe that all must experience the new birth to get to heaven and that there is no way to heaven and eternal life except by Jesus Christ. We are either completely saved or completely lost. Regeneration is completely of the Lord and has no bearing on baptism or any other act of obedience (John 3:3,6,7,36, Romans 11:6 and Ephesians 2:8-9).

JUSTIFICATION

We believe that we, as believers, are just in God’s sight and have our sins forgiven not through any of our good works but through the finished work of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:1 and Hebrews 1:3, 7:27).

HEAVEN AND HELL

We believe that heaven and hell are literal and not figurative and that only those trusting in Jesus Christ will be in heaven and all others will be in hell for all eternity (Luke 16:22-23 and Revelation 20:15, 21:3-4,8).
