Quilting Courses

You may choose any of the courses outlines on my Quilting Course web page. Our guests have the option to include several different quilt courses within a weeklong retreat. We can also tailor design courses to meet your particular skill level or interest in a particular technique.

Whether you are new to quilting or experienced in the fine art of quilting we will do our best to ensure your quilting retreat is relaxing, educational and an experience to build upon. A place where you are free to explore your hidden talents, share ideas and grow at a comfortable pace.

Beginners Courses: We have tailored the course outline to include an open discussion on various quilting tools used in the making of a quilt and how important they are. How to use a cutting mat, ruler and cutting blade. We will discuss the many types of battings and thread choices. We will also discuss other types of fabrics and why most Quilters prefer cottons. We will have the opportunity to discuss the hundreds of traditional quilt styles and wide variety of techniques use as pieced or applique. Quilting is a vast topic that it will take a lifetime to learn all that there is to quilting, New techniques are being invented or re-invented.

Field trip:

We will visit our local quilt shop to discuss colour impact and how important it is to give a colour punch to your quilts. Let Quilts (as the locals affectionately call them) help you with student supply list and colour coordinating your project. Purchasing locally is an advantage, less to lug around and if by chance you make a mistake or run out of a particular fabric, Quilts is handy. You'll have the opportunity to make your supply purchases at Quilts and other Comforts and they have an online store if that is more convenient for you.

"Note": It is advisable to arrive the day before and early enough to take in the field trip to the quilt shop. We will arrange for Quilts and other Comforts to open their doors after hours for your very private shopping experience.

In the classroom:

For a mini retreat (weekend) the focus is on learning a quilting technique such as the art of applique which could include reverse, needle turn, traditional methods and machine applique. Another example: The timeless, traditional log cabin, the various ways to set the blocks, history of the quilt block and the versatility of piecing different block centers. We will have an opportunity to complete a class sample.

Experienced Quilters: We can tailor courses to accommodate your needs and I'm looking forward to a dialogue to discuss the various techniques you would like to learn. We will also participate in a field trip as stated.

There is sooo much to learn about quilting that it would be impossible to learn everything in one retreat.

UFO Projects: Here is the perfect opportunity to complete those unfinished quilting projects in peace and quite on the premises...... Work at your own pace with guidance from an international quilting instructor on the premise.
