Quilting Courses
In her classes, Jane shares her passion for quilting. She has designed most of her classes to suit all skill levels because she believes that this benefits everyone. Her teaching style is to provide a lot of individual attention, therefore, she can help each quilter achieve the results they would like, regardless of their experience. There are three categories of classes: Design Your Own Series, Quilt Dyenamics Original Designs and Quilting Techniques. Supply lists are not shown here but are provided prior to each class registration.

In all of the Design Your Own classes, quilters are encouraged to express their individual personality and creativity through designs that are truly their own.
"Beneath Starry Skies": Design Your Mariners Compass Series
Mariners Compass is an old pattern based on the early compasses that helped sailors to use the night skies for navigation. It is such an exciting design because the possible colour and shape combinations are limited only by our imagination. Therefore, in this class, Jane places emphasis on the interplay between colour and shape.
There are six Design Your Own Mariners Compass classes, each dealing with a different shape. These classes are:
- Round Mariners Compass
- Octagon Mariners Compass
- Oval Mariners Compass
- Diamond Mariners Compass
- Hexagon Mariners Compass
- Square Mariners Compass

Jane had been experimenting with Mariners Compass for some time. In this class. quilter's work with variations of one shape. Jane shares tips for crisp points, three-dimensional stars, simplified drafting techniques and pattern transfer. The sky is the limit and at the end of this class, quilters will be able to design stars within stars. Also discussed are the pros and cons of several different approaches to design and pattern creation. Quilter will leave the class with a completed block and the ability to create any size of Mariners Compass quilt of their own design.

Imagine a diamond, square, oval, octagon or hexagon star in the center with your colour choice. I believe that stars are different combinations of shapes and colours. Some shine more brightly, some are so close you can almost touch them!

Design Your Own Bed Size Wholecloth Quilt
All Skill Levels 2 Days
In North America, Some of the earliest quilts were Wholecloth. Today this beautiful and timeless style of quilting is enjoying a revival and Jane will review the history of this type of quilt. Jane's Wholecloth work is truly beautiful and in this class she shares her ideas, tips and love of wholecloth. "Expressions in Victorian Design: teaches how to plan, design and transfer the pattern for a bed size quilt as well as the "No Knot" technique of quilting. Quilting design and trapunto techniques will be reviewed and Jane works with each quilter to help them find the design and technique most suited to them.

Design Your Own Lap Size Wholecloth Quilt
All Skill Levels 2 Days
Design your wholecloth quilt on paper in quarter scale. Learn several techniques for transferring your design to fabric, how to mark a quilt, about marking tools, batting choices and waxing your threads. Hand quilting will be demonstrated and machine quilting will be discussed. This project is ideal for a crib quilt or a padded tablecloth. |

"Quilts of Illusions" Design Your Own Three Dimensional Quilt
All Skill Levels 1 Day Course
The possibilities are endless when creating an illusional quilt. The focus in this class, is the versatile diamond shape and quilters explore the many possibly variations based on the diamond. Colour will also be emphasized because of its importance in creating the illusion. Several machine and hand techniques will be covered and quilters will complete a sample block in each technique.

Baltimore Album Applique Blocks

Jane has created her own design that is a twist on the traditional round Baltimore Album. Her innovative design is based on an oval block and results in an interesting and beautiful piece. These three-dimensional oval blocks are such fun to create. Learn to make beautiful pansies, chrysanthemums, old roses, wild flowers, daffodils and rick-rack roses, leaves and stems. Each of these blocks is a one-day course. This class is suitable to any quilter with creative imagination.

You can put sashing with ivy vines, a variety of leaves and flowers or saw tooth edges between the blocks to add a unique appearance to your quilt top.

Three Dimensional Baltimore Album Wall Hanging
All Skill Levels 4 Day Explore the traditional three-dimensional style of Baltimore Album quilting. Learn to make woven baskets, seam binding ribbon chrysanthemums, calyxes, bias stems, several unique shaped leaves and embellishment. Background quilting fillers plus scalloped edges will be demonstrated and discussed in class. Binding scalloped edges will also be discussed

"Northern Reflections"
Intermediate to advanced Three days
Jane conceived this design while viewing the North Star through a window in her home. The centre medallion is the North Star and the borders are her window frame. Based on the diamond mariners compass quilters create a lap size or wall hanging top ready for quilting. Crisp points are a must in this and many other designs. Learn how to master the techniques for creating those sharp points that present problems for many quilters. Paper Piecing experience required.

"Star Gazer"
Octagon Mariners Compass
Intermediate to advanced Three days Jane chose the octagon as the basic shape for this design because it is not often used for stars and she enjoyed the challenge of creating the design using an unusual shape. The result is her "Star Gazer" octagon mariners compass. At the end of the course, quilters will have a wall hanging top completely pieced together and ready for quilting. The octagonal shape has sixteen points to deal with; therefore, emphasis will be placed on mastering techniques to create crisp, clean points. Paper Piecing experience required.

"Expressions in Tactile Textures" Class 1: Machine Quilting Techniques
All Skill Levels One Day
Break free and be a creative designer using freehand and continuous line quilting techniques. Explore the possibilities of adding unique background textures to your quilts using no templates or measurements. Add stars on a string, blowing leaves, hearts on a string, stippling, butterflies and many, many more design choices to your quilts.
Students will prepare various samples of the techniques taught in the class.
Students are required to be very familiar with their sewing machine. |

"Expressions in Cloth" All Skill Levels Add unique surface texture to your quilts . Discover the visual, artistic value of holographic, variegated, invisible, metallic and regular threads. Add accent texture to quilts, like several design techniques of grass, water, clouds or sky. Add three dimensional textures to stone buildings or roads, knotholes to trees or fences, leaves to trees, shingles to roofs or fish scales and much more without templates or measuring. Feathered work in the sashing will be addressed with a fudged technique. How to design corners for the borders will also be discussed. |

Classic Trapunto
Familiarity with your sewing machine is required 2 Days
Trapunto is a technique that enhances the texture of your quilts by creating a wonderful rich, tactile surface to any quilting project. In this class, explore the various techniques used in classic trapunto.
Two hand techniques will be explored. The third technique is machine trapunto
Samples of each technique can be made into pillow tops or doll quilts. However, the technique can be applied to any size quilt

All skill levels 2 Hours
The Paper Piece technique is an accurate method for piecing quilting blocks together. The class covers pressing techniques to reduce distortion, creating sharp, crisp points and many helpful tips and tricks. You will be able to accurately piece together 6" and miniature blocks using Wash Away Foundation Paper and regular paper. Students can apply this knowledge to larger and more complicated patterns. Paper Piecing is a terrific way to use up your fabric scraps.
