Youth Program:

The Moosonee Native Friendship Centre has received funding to start a new program initiative that will benefit all youth/young adults, of Moosonee/Moose Factory, between the ages of 12-25 years.

This new Youth Program is funded by the National Association of Friendship Centres under their project: Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centre (UMAYC).

The Friendship Centre hired two Youth Project Coordinators, who will be responsible in implementing all aspects of UMAYC Project which includes establishing a Youth Centre, a Youth Council, and an Advisory Committee.

Once established, the YOUTH DROP-IN/TRAINING CENTRE will provide youth with opportunities to organize themselves into an effective and unified voice within their community; and to address their needs through a combination of new programs, existing services, and other community based activities that will empower them.

The Youth Council will assist in developing an organizational infrastructure, promote community awareness, and develop the tools needed for youth to help themselves.  In this way, the youth will be able to address their own needs, and become effective partners in building a community that will offer them a more positive, healthy, a supportive place to be.
