Aboriginal
Family Support Program:
GOALS:
To
provide support to children 0-6 years old and their families through provision
of holistic, healing, and preventive services. Services shall be
made available in culturally based methodology which targets the Infant,
Toddler, and early development and learning years of the child.
Prevention
and Education programs and support to single parents and families will
be developed as intrinsic to the overall Aboriginal Family Support Program.
Family
Support Services:
-
Parents
and Playgroup:
a time for parents with children to interact with other families
with young children
-
Parent
Relief: a time for parents to drop off their
children while they run errands, go for appointments, or just for time
out to themselves.
-
ABC
Club: an after school program for children 4-6
years old. Children will have fun interacting with their peers, making
a craft, singing songs, learning basic Native Language, and playing games.
-
My
Parent & Me Kitchen: a Time for Parents and
children to cook healthy and nutritious meals. What ever is
left can be shared between families to take home.
-
Family
Art Attack:
is a time for families to make crafts with dried flowers, moose hide, photo
albums, etc. The first craft made is to be kept in the Aboriginal
Family Support Program and what ever is made during the next sessions can
be taken home.
-
Tea
Tyme:
is a time for single parents, families, and/or friends to come and sit
together and discuss prevention and educational information.
-
Emergency
Supplies: is for people who are in need of pampers,
formula, baby food, and some basic necessities/groceries. However,
to prevent this service from being abused, you are needed to participate
in the programs offered by the program.
-
Clothing
& Furniture Depot: is when people donate new or
used clothing/furnature to our program and is open to give to those who
are in need of such merchandise. So if you have anything that can
be used by others, don't throw it out - give us a call.
